Cafe Scouting: Organic Vegetarian Fresh Mart and Restaurant
Whenever I catch sight of a new plant-based cafe or restaurant around town, I make an immediate beeline for it. Not because I’m necessarily hungry, but because I have a genuine concern about how long it will survive in the, for lack of a better phrase, dog-eat-dog world of F&B. So whenever a cafe looks like something I can support, I’d go straight in there and fill my tummy. Or when I’m not craving for a bite, I would usually just pop in and give sincere thanks and express my excitement that I know of a new place in town to try out. Just to give the owners a moral boost and let them know that there’s a demand and appreciation for food like this out there from folks like me. Sometimes it is in vain. I have seen the demise of multiple vegetarian cafes in my lifetime, permanently closing their doors after a few years.
By the looks of things, a place like Organic Vegetarian Fresh Mart and Restaurant is not going to endure such a fate. This grocery store cum health store cum restaurant has been serving customers since 2007 and is still going strong, with regulars constantly flowing in and out, filling up tables and their reusable grocery bags. I was introduced to this cafe through my ex who used to live in Sunway, and he was an omnivore. These days, whenever I mention this cafe to others and they happen to know of it too, the response is always sensational. With their customer base comprising of both plant-eaters and avid meat-eaters, this place is a hit, and the restaurant’s commitment to serving tasty food for all is what will help this place stand the test of F&B industry time.
Apart from them selling honey products and serving some drinks with honey, the establishment is entirely vegan. If you are unsure, it is always best to check with the staff.
